Thanks to our JSON (or “Jason,” as we like to call it around here) feed, DonorsChoose.org proposals are now part of A Mashup of 29+ Social Action Platforms by Peter Deitz of Social Actions. You can cast a vote for this mashup as part of the NetSquared Mashup Challenge until this Monday 3/24. I’m personally very excited about this, as I’ve been pushing for micro-philanthropic integration for some time now and this a first step forward.

I think the Google map approach is the best way to help people act locally.
I think you need to work with donorschoose to signal every teacher to get their “challenge” on the map.
I’m in San Mateo and i’ve read through 50+ requests for funding without finding even one compelling idea — and I found several silly, frivolous or just plain bad ideas.
Signal to noise seems to be the biggest problem — the simple idea of giving a small amount so that “many hands make light work” seems to solve a lot of problems, but when those problems are buried in pages of information about bigger issues, the “think global” becomes an impediment to “act local.”
Well, I’m going to contact each school in my city and in the vicinity of my children’s schools and see what kind of micro-philanthropy they’re attempting to defray their budget shortfall problems.
I have no doubt this can work. Keep up the good work.
