Central States Deputy Director

About the Position:
As a critical team member of our National expansion, the Central States Deputy Director will take an active role in expanding DonorsChoose.org across a 13-state region. The Central States Deputy Director is responsible for helping cultivate new and existing individual, corporate, and foundation supporters, as well as developing and executing strategy for district outreach and teacher engagement. Reporting directly to the Central States Executive Director, the Deputy Director will share in the responsibility for successfully increasing teacher engagement and promoting citizen philanthropy through various corporate and community partnerships.

The Deputy Director position requires travel as well as frequent in-person meetings with new and existing supporters of DonorsChoose.org. This position is a unique opportunity to be a part of an innovative, fun, high-profile, and rapidly growing organization that is changing the face of philanthropy and the lives of students from low income families.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Regional Executive Director and National Advisory Council to secure 30% of regional funding through the cultivation of new and existing corporate, foundation, and individual supporters.
  • Help execute regional strategy for engaging corporate and foundation partners through
    DonorsChoose.org managed giving programs: “Giving Cards,” “Double your Donation,” Tipping Point, Corporate and Community Challenges, Youth Philanthropy, and Direct Grants.
  • Conduct research to identify potential corporate partners for DonorsChoose.org’s managed giving programs.
  • Identify, cultivate and solicit high net worth individual donors via in-person meetings and/or events.
  • Drive fundraising efforts, including writing and securing corporate, foundation and individual grants both to sustain our regional operating budget and to support student projects on DonorsChoose.org.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of a regional strategy for engaging donors and teachers.
  • Independently structure, analyze and manipulate DonorsChoose.org data for grants, media requests, board meetings, etc.
  • Continuously track all contacts, leads, notes, and funding opportunities in SalesForce.
  • Customize pitch materials and prepare Executive Director to pitch the largest opportunities.
  • Continuously track the results/effectiveness of existing partnerships with funders and school districts.
  • Collaborate across regional and national teams to share best practices and inform the systems and
    process that will influence the future of DonorsChoose.org.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 4 years fundraising, marketing and/or management experience with quantifiable track record.
  • Team player with a strong passion for the mission and vision of DonorsChoose.org.
  • Comfortable with tasks ranging from office management to serving as the public face of
    DonorsChoose.org across the region.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail orientation, personal organization, and ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Desire to work in a fast paced, startup-like. environment with aggressive growth plans.
  • Travel (up to 50%) is required.

Compensation:
DonorsChoose.org offers a competitive salary with excellent benefits, which include health, dental, and vision coverage; a non-contributing 401K plan; and 5 weeks paid vacation plus national holidays.
