HP is teaming up with DonorsChoose.org again to support classrooms. When you purchase any HP product through the Create Change program between now and January 31st, HP will contribute 4% of the purchase to the charity of your choice, including DonorsChoose.org. That adds up to a lot of critical classroom materials for students!

So, as you think about buying upcoming holiday gifts, replacing ink cartridges (or if you are just looking for a cool new laptop for yourself), consider making your purchase on the HP Create Change site and giving back to schools! And don’t forget to tell your friends about this offer – there is even a spiffy widget that you can use to share this program with your friends, colleagues and family. Thanks so much HP for helping students and teachers get the resources they need to succeed!

Thanks to the California Community Foundation and the FEDCO Charitable Foundation, DonorsChoose.org has a “Double Your Impact” offer for K-12 teachers in the following districts: ABC/Cerritos, Culver City, Norwalk-La Mirada or Pasadena Unified. The match offer is valid for hands-on, classroom projects or field trips requests for under $500 in resources that will help bring learning to life!

For this opportunity, we are looking for projects that include engaging and creative experiential learning activities, such as a hands-on math or science projects. Priority will be given to projects that incorporate experiential learning that is linked to class curriculum or integrates community-related topics. Please note, NO requests for computer hardware or cameras will be considered.

Any project posted to DonorsChoose.org that meets these criteria will receive 50% funding via this offer once other donors choose to join in and fund the rest of the project. Funding will be spent on a first come, first served basis until the grants are spent out.

The FEDCO Charitable Foundation was created when the FEDCO chain of stores closed in 1999. More than $7 million was used to establish the FEDCO Charitable Foundation at CCF.  CCF awards FEDCO Teacher Grants each year to fund hands-on, classroom projects or field trips that help bring learning to life. Grants range from $500 to $1,000 and support teachers of students in grades kindergarten through 12 in Cerritos, Culver City, Norwalk-La Mirada, Pasadena and Los Angeles Unified school districts.

CCF is L.A.’s foundation. It has been around since 1915 and has about $1 billion in assets. As the 53rd largest foundation in the nation, CCF grants out the second biggest proportion of its assets – 17 percent – among U.S. foundations. In fiscal year ended June 30, 2009, CCF granted $191 million as investments in the future of local communities. The foundation is known as one of L.A.’s most innovative investors in permanent, low-income housing and the biggest supporter of individual artists in the region. We are thrilled that HP is sponsoring the DonorsChoose.org Social Media Challenge and helping dedicated bloggers and twitterers improve classroom experiences.

To kick off the Challenge, HP supported every single Giving Page with a $50 donation to a classroom project. This contribution really jump-started the contest and inspired other donors to join in the fun.

Next week, we will distribute the remaining $200,000 of HP’s contribution to all Social Media Challenge Giving Pages.  But this time, the participant’s share will be calculated based on the percentage he or she raises by Sunday, October 25, 2009.

Tens of thousands of dollars for classroom resources are up for grabs, so if you are participating in the Challenge this year, keep those blog posts, tweets and status updates coming! Or support your favorite blogger or twitterer here!

Yahoo!, a long-time partner of DonorsChoose.org, is inviting everyone to share your creative singing voices by customizing and uploading your own Yahoo! Yodel. That’s right, the catchy Yahoo! trademark, which is part song, part celebration shout, is ready for you to modify, mix and simply make your own—in the Yahoo! Yodel Studio.

And, if you are lucky enough to be in the Big Apple on Tuesday, October 13, Yahoo! will be in Times Square to help New Yorkers unleash their inner rock star with a little help from Randy Jackson, LeAnn Rimes, Rob Cavallo, Kimberly Caldwell, Ryan Leslie, Pete Wentz and Jewel.

In return for submitting your own Yodel by 10/31/2009, Yahoo! will immediately provide you with a $10 DonorsChoose.org electronic Giving Card to help fund the classroom project of your choice on DonorsChoose.org. To learn how you can take advantage of this offer (and possible internet stardom), visit yodelstudio.yahoo.com.

This year Best Buy launched www.at15.com, an innovative site that harnesses the power of online interactivity to provide a platform for teens to speak their minds and, among other things, direct $1M in Best Buy corporate giving.

One component of this site is the Best Buy @15 Change Exchange, in which Best Buy selects four non-profits to vie for $250,000 each quarter. DonorsChoose.org is part of the current Change Exchange campaign that runs until October 31st. From now until October 31st teens can register at www.at15.com  and earn points completing different activities. Then at the end of the campaign (October 15 to 31st) they allocate their points to the non-profit they want Best Buy to support. Each non-profit receives the percentage share of $250,000 that matches the percentage of the total points they received from @15 members.

We’d like to thank Best Buy for this awesome opportunity!

Teens – check out our profile on www.at15.com/changeexchange and give your points to DonorsChoose.org to support public school classrooms in need!

As we gear up for the back-to-school season DonorsChoose.org has partnered with Interactive One, a leading digital connection network for African Americans. In partnership with its radio broadcasting division, Radio One, Inc. they have launched BlackPlanet Rising (www.blackplanetrising.com), a central resource that provides tools, information and news for giving in the community. One of the key components of BlackPlanet Rising’s social mission is education and they have partnered with DonorsChoose.org to address this goal. In an effort to ensure students are receiving the best education possible and developing the next generation of future leaders BlackPlanet Rising has created a giving page.
