“OK Google — can you help me find a teacher to support?” Big news from our friends at Google! Until December 2nd at 11:59pm PT, 5% of all purchases made from Google Store will go to support classroom projects from DonorsChoose.org teachers, up to $500,000 total.Once the campaign wraps up, they’ll use the funds to support technology projects from teachers across the country. Technology is one of the most frequently requested categories on DonorsChoose.org, and teachers have told us again and again the enormous difference it can make in the classroom. We can’t wait to see all of the amazing ideas that Google Store will be able to bring to life through this campaign!
Why Technology Matters in the Classroom
When classrooms lack basic supplies such as books and pencils, technology like laptops and tablets can seem like a luxury. Yet “luxury” is far from the way many DonorsChoose.org teachers would describe the technology they use in their classrooms. Mr. Daunis, a Connecticut middle school teacher, highlights how important it is to get students ready for the future:
“Preparing our students to survive and thrive in a technological age will not only make them more prepared to be future innovators and leaders but will also allow them to become more culturally aware and knowledgeable global citizens.”
