What Happens (at the Annual AP Conference) in Vegas…

Share:

Hi everyone! Ali here, Teacher Engagement Manager for DonorsChoose.org.This past Friday, July 19, I had the privilege of connecting with dozens of new AP STEM Access teachers at the College Board’s AP Annual Conference in Las Vegas. In December, DonorsChoose.org received a $5 million Google Global Impact Award. In collaboration with the College Board, we’ll use this funding to start more than 500 new AP STEM classes nationwide. These courses will reach students who have historically not had access to upper level math and science classes, including many students of color, girls, and children in low-income communities. At the special Friday night reception for the teachers of these new classes, I worked with an amazing team of DonorsChoose.org volunteers to get AP STEMmers started on posting their projects. Teachers brought questions, supply lists, photos of desired materials, printouts of their student rosters and extreme amounts of enthusiasm. I was so inspired by the collaboration I overheard amongst the group and the devotion of these teachers to their students and their new AP STEM classes! In the words of one AP Environmental Science teacher,“On behalf of my students, I want to thank you for all of your help to make this new course a success. It was really helpful to attend the conference.”It was helpful for me, too! I can’t wait to see what great things these AP STEM teachers and their students accomplish this school year.So here’s hoping that what happened at the AP Annual Conference in Vegas WON’T just stay there.Learn more about the AP STEM Access Program.
